SYNASTRY: SATURN SQUARE OR OPPOSITE VENUS

Love served cold. Saturn Square or Opposite Venus in synastry is a powerful karmic contact that you either love or hate.

Saturn most certainly wants Venus and at first (considering there is mutual attraction) the Saturn person will pursue the Venus person quite strongly and it isn't until much time has past that the more negative attributes show up. Saturn in hard aspect serves to try to change the Venus person and will attempt this by being critical, demanding, suppressive and even mean. This aspect is known to bind two people together and seems to work well with those that have Saturn aspects natally or planets in Capricorn. However, for those with more Air or Water this aspect can be highly frustrating over time.

If the blockage and suppression is not a result of the actions of one person, there seems to be outside forces at work that make it very difficult for the couple to be together which can be quite painful. Whether it is one has many obligations, financial troubles or other personal issues that interfere with the relationships developing or continuing this is when the Saturn person can push the Venus person away or end up being rather nasty and judgmental of Venus.

Planets in hard aspect show strong differences, which are not easy to work out. Saturn in hard aspect is no different. Whether or not this aspect works for you or not will depend much on what you want out of a relationship. As stated earlier this aspect is very powerful in the earlier stages because Saturn wants Venus's love but feels the need to control her expression in some cases out of fear and in others because he finds her expression to frivolous and wants to change her.

The Saturn person can be judgmental and critical of the Venus person.

Although this aspect creates much attraction at first it is not until a few years have past that the tension begins to really show and Venus is often the one that feels unsatisfied and eventually craves more.

Now, There are positives about this aspect, as I mentioned it does seem to keep two people together usually because there is a lot of work that is put into developing it and in some cases many obstacles to overcome.

Saturn is the father of time, so the secret lies in the wanting but not really quite getting, this is why the bond can go on and off for many years.

This is the case when Venus will end up having to make all the effort and ends up doing most of the work. It is also possible that the distance between the two is completely based on outside factors and this is the Karmic aspect of it. There is usually something you both need to do to stay together and it won't be easy.  Sometimes the Saturn person, has blockages, such as children, financial difficulties, has recently gone through a divorce or other complications that are preventing the two from getting together.

However, even if this is so, there still seems to be an inability on behalf of the Saturn person to give Venus what she needs. I have known many to marry with this aspect, but usually at the end of it all ,Venus is greatly unsatisfied and even resentful of Saturn

Saturn is hard work, and restrictions which doesn't really mesh well, in a romantic love relationship. Sure it creates a durable responsible bond, but because of all the pressure and seriousness the fun and romantic vibe can disappear and this relationship can turn quickly into routine comfortable relationship that is based on duty and responsibility.

This aspect can also be seen in couples with a large age difference, usually the Saturn person is older.  The Saturn person may put high expectations on Venus.

If you have a sensitive Venus sign chances are this won't cut it for you. However, I have seen Capricorn Sun or Venus do well, with this aspect as well as other Saturn aspect in their natal chart with Venus because they themselves equate love with duty.

So I guess it really comes down to what you want out of a relationship. If you are looking for a partner that is romantic, sensitive, and willing to make you feel like Queen or a King then this aspect will leave you longing for more.

For some it seems to be something about the wanting, that keeps two people involved with this aspect. Usually this aspect will make things move at a snails pace or their is usually some difficulty to go through first.

  1. What are your thoughts when this aspect is a double whammy, Saturn oppose venus in synastry with both people. Interestingly, both have Saturn square venus in their natal charts?

    1. Wow. I think that the relationship is karmic/ fates for sure. It offers a deep and powerful opportunity to advance materially and spiritually rapidly as individuals. You both want to be your best for each other and offer commmimtnent and loyalty but also the ability to focus on your own individual paths while meeting at the top together. However this is only if you both let go of your negative perception of yourselves or fears and trust that if you give to each other and yourselves openly and freely if there is a underlining jealousy or overly possessive tone to the relationship you should change that tone as soon as possible because Saturn will want you both performing at your peak, no slacking a loud ;) you are mirrors for yourselves approaching love from the same perspective and can both Leann and grow as a result. There is a very powerful attraction between you too which tells me it's gonna happen :) or fated. I think those are very powerful aspects.

    3. Thank you for your insight on this! believe there is something karmic also, and other aspects lead me to believe that each has the opportunity for healing as well.

    1. Definitley Karmic, and big lessons to learn. However, the DW reflects that the two of you came together to learn about love and to let go of fear, it's either let each other in and love, or you fall back into the blockage of Saturn which is the karmic part.

There is a lot of chemistry and a very strong magnetic attraction which is to pull you together to overcome these things so you both can be happy together.

It's very possible AND you both have a lot to offer each other, you BOTH just need to offer it:) emphasizing both because one might be more of a evolved soul than the other and that's when it can become painful. Don't play games or push each other away, your bond has the potential to last a lifetime, but can just as easily become a painful game.

      Wishing you the best!

  4. What if the synastry of Saturn to Venus is in sesquiquadrate, a minor tense aspect.... Would the tension go in a different direction?

  5. Wow. I have this aspect myself, am a Libra, 2 degrees. I met guy w bday 10 days from mine, so his orb is 10 degrees. And I suppose my saturn is 12 degrees from his venus. His Saturn is on top my Venus, as is my own chart. He is also Libra, Cap ascendant with Saturn in 7th house. It is the hardest part of my chart...as if I have to work for love. I can see how the cap/saturn influences could help.

  6. The sesquiquadrate in my opionion can be even a bit more frustrating but not always it’s like you both have quirks that may work the other or that there is more difficulty based on a lack of understanding what the problem is in the first place. It can be more designating because of differences that are hard to reconcile because you are both very different inexpression or likes and and dislikes but it can also be very similar to the square but perhaps not so much by outside influence but more about differences in personalities that can be bothersome.

    1. Other smoother aspects can help a great deal though :)

  7. My abusive ex and I have this aspect, with my Venus (in Sag) opposite his Saturn (in Virgo). He was exceptionally controlling and manipulative. Does that figure?

  8. I have saturn near my SN in aries. Everyone that has venus on my NN in libra, also has it opposing my saturn. I met a boy that has his venus exact on my NN. His presence made me wanting to be in a relationship even if I was solo for a few years now celebrating every day of the solo life. I feel so undeserving of love when I am next to him like I would never be a good match.
