SATURN TRANSITS the 12th house- The truth behind the scenes

Image result for old movieSaturn's Transit to the 12th house is a karmic time, and a time when you will need to find your higher power or faith. It's often a heavy time and is a time of deep reflection, contemplation, and review, of all that has transpired in your life up until now.

It's also where we face the karma or consequences for our previous actions. The 12th house is the house of undoing, and hold our subconscious and unconscious the things that are hidden from us.

This can be and usually is, a very heavy time and as a result, we often choose to pull away or are forced to pull away from others as a result of seeing things in a different light. We can see the very negative side of people, our fears are enhanced and we will need to deal with these things, and let go of all that has been holding us back.

This is a time of endings, endings of our old ways, facing our fears,  hidden enemies, and on the positive finding our inner strength and faith to carry on and try again, this time much wiser.

The realism and critical eye that Saturn adds to our house of dreams, illusions, spirituality, and the unconscious can be quite illuminating. Saturn here shows us how we may have sabotaged ourselves through our illusions that we have set up, our self-denials, and any painful experiences we have consciously chosen to block out.

Here we face many fears, both real and imagined and often find out that our hidden enemy is our self. We are being asked to right our wrongs, so if you have not acted out with the highest principals, now is the time to make right.

The 12th house is also the house of secrets, sorrows, and self-undoing, as well as hospitals, prisons, and institutions. It's where we have imprisoned ourselves through our insecurities, negative actions, and unconscious behaviors.

During Saturn's transit here we can now see all THESE things clearly and will go 'face to face' with our inner demons. We will see the truth of things for what they really are not any longer from behind " Neptune's 12th house veil".

However, it is also possible that hidden enemies reveal themselves which can be very difficult to realize and may cause depression.

Depending on your actions up until now, for some this may bring out a tremendous amount of guilt, regret, paranoia or sadness. Disappointment in others is very common.

The 12th is also known as the house of sorrows" and self-undoing" so you will be forced to face up to your part in all that happens now. Then you will be able to work on your release perhaps requiring apologies, forgiveness, or simply letting it go and forgiving yourself. Then making the proper changes so you can begin the new cycle with all that you know now when Saturn finally hits your Ascendant.

This is the purpose of Saturn's transit here. Although this is a heavy process, this is also very necessary so to assist you in the healing process and going along with the hospital, sanctuary, or rehab theme, most are vaguely or mysteriously comforted during this time by finding a very patient lover, or friend, or finding God or faith. Again this all depends on your individual Karma.

For those that have handled their lives wisely and have treated others with respect and courtesy, this transit can very much be a dream-like fairy tale. Circumstances surrounding the individual are strangely comforting in an almost surreal way.

Some during Saturn's transit here; find the job of their dreams, or and almost" Saint-like" Lover but sometimes finds a new path after this transit is over.

This time truly is preparation for a new cycle, so let go of the people, attachments and things, that are making their way out. What must go will, so it's much easier to just allow it and not fear, it's truly for your betterment.

Although this transit can feel like a lifetime, it's not, it will pass. So don't let the depression overtake you realize what's happening and go with the flow. When Saturn finally moves into your 1st the "house of self" you will begin a new cycle, and it will feel like night and day from this transit.

It's best to look at this time as a retreat, or a long visit to a psychologist or getaway, time alone is usually necessary. We need to let go, forgive ourselves, make changes or whatever your individual case may be. However, we can not continue until we understand our shadow side, our pitfalls, escapism or denial any longer.

The rose colored glasses are off and you are facing (Saturn reality) in your unconscious mind, this is when "the unconscious becomes conscious".

However, if you have been honest with yourself and others and have been living according to the laws of karma, then this transit can turn out to be a "walk in the park" and you will enjoy the mystical, magical and spiritual side that is also prevalent, in the more "positive side" of this transit.
Saturn's transit here is truly the time where our karma catches up to us. Karma is both good and bad, it all depends on the individual.

This is the best time to right any wrongs you now have a chance to rectify all past mistakes and it is the perfect time to do so.

At the end of this transit you will find a new inner strength, and faith and then will begin a new cycle with a fresh start with all that you have learned. Let go and don't be too hard on yourself. It's a great time to dive into spirituality, meditation and self help, or psychotherapy.

  1. Hello! I was glad to read your post, it resonated very much with the period that I am going through right now. I have noticed that I've became much more introspective, and have been analysing and almost dissecting my past, and all of the actions that brought me to this point.

I must be honest, I don't really believe in astrological predictions, however, I find everything related to it very interesting and fascinating. You have a really engaging blog! Keep up the great work.

  2. Hi Violetta! Thank you for visiting!, and your compliments:) If you are indeed having this transit, no worries, it will be a relief when it's over for sure! but will be very rewarding as well! I encourage you to keep learning astrology! specifically into your "personal chart" and the transits to it, it's like bringing an umbrella on a rainy day, That's all, 'it's free will', to 'know' and to change the outcome by being prepared;)

  3. Hi Zaharastar~
I guess I should consider myself "lucky" because saturn will only be transiting my 12th house for 20 months. I've already been experiencing saturn for @1year now. BUT- in 3 months saturn will transit my 1st house for @3.5 months before retrograding back into the 12th for the last 5 months. Would I start to see "forward" movement in my life when saturn enters the 1st in a couple of months? Do you think I would maybe get new ideas at that time to help "change" my life for the better etc.!? Any ideas!?😇

  4. Hi Sparkle! Thank you for stopping by! Yes, things will atlas begin to move forward when Saturn enters your 1st house. This is a major coming out transit. All the stuff you are letting go of while Saturn is moving through your 12th, is all part of preparation for his movement through your 1st. Saturns effects through the 1st do vary from person to person, some feel a huge difference, and others don't begin to feel it until he begins to make his way further through the 1st, usually after his 1st retrograde. Other factors need to be considered as far as what other transits you are experiencing at the same time. I know many felt a complete uproot, suddenly got very busy to where there is no time for any fun, other's get married and take on more family responsibility. You will be setting the stage for a new cycle and the work you do during this transit will help crystalize your identity. You will be much more serious and focused- if you haven't been in the past this is very helpful to accomplish your goals. It can be stressful because you start to feel the pressure, and Saturn's critiquing. Saturn is a tough guy, but he rewards for "hard work" are like no other. It will be tough at first when Saturn starts to incorporate into your personality, but he get's things done. Do take care of your health, the 1st house is your physical body, it's a great time to kick any bad habits and start a new health regime. Yes, your life will change in a very good way at the end of this transit, but it might be tough at first. Try not to alientate yourself from others, too much, although you will probably want to, because this transit is all about you becoming who you were meant to be. No more taking care of others, take care of you. My advice, is to and get lot's of rest you might feel fatigued at first, exercise helps a bunch:) and start writing out a plan now of what it is you want to do. When he enters your 1st he will help you stay determined and focused, to accomplish your goals. Don't be so hard on yourself! It's a big difference from the illusive 12th house to the 1st, it's all about you time. :)

  5. Zaharastar-
Thank you so much for your response. As saturn has been transiting my 12th I've lost the only few important relationships that meant the world to me. I'm usually a "loner" by choice, but it seems even more so now that I have no relationships in my life at this point lol. But it's interesting because now that those relationships are gone, I feel I've really changed and become stronger as not to rely on someone. I'm also very serious and a very hard worker so saturn going into the 1st shouldn't rattle me in that way. My problem now is that I really have no "goals" per say because I've completed everything I've wanted to up to this point in my life( I'm close to 40yrs old now). All I feel is that I know I want to relocate to another state and get a different job, but I have no clue where or what job I should be looking for! I start having eclipses in my 4th and 10th houses this month and into next year etc. so I'm hoping this will generate that change I want! It's just SO frustrating having no direction at this point. Hopefully when saturn first enters my 1st house in Jan 2015 those I ideas will become more clear? In the meantime - all I've been doing is exercising, eating healthy, resting( I do feel more tired/drained now during this transit) and just keep hibernating like I usually do -HA-HA 😇. Thanks so much for your encouraging thoughts. Saturn in the 12th is really horrible and I feel for everyone who has to go through it because I really lost all those things/people in my life that had been emotionally important to me.

    1. Saturn through the 12th is a tough time, a lot of things and people seem to make there way out. You can usually see that lost look in most people experiencing this transit. Things just feel beyond one's control. It can be hard to understand but most of this although painful is necessary, even though we may not see it at the time. The best way to deal with it is exactly how you have, taking care of your health, with exercise, eating healthy and getting plenty of rest. Saturn will kick start things for you and as it starts to get closer to your Ascendant you should feel the shift, and things will start moving. Don't worry not having direction while he's in the 12th is completely normal. It will come while he's in your 1st, you will actually be quite busy during that time, so something should be coming to you soon and you will begin that new start, to your new life. I don't know the other details of your chart to give you any ideas as to what it is you might be getting involved in in this next phase, but it will be new and more inline with where you want to be. Eclipses are new beginings and in the 4th and 10th it does sound like a move is very possible.( I do offer a life path reading that covers all of this, which you can see in my reports section if you are interested in having me help. As a member you can get it for almost half off.) it's a major analysis of all the charts required and will give you that direction you need.) Because there is a lot to take into consideration, with other transits and aspects in your personal chart, I can only shoot from the hip and say, that Saturn seeks to crystalize all that he touches, although it's usually not right away, and most of the time, through seperation and loss at first which serves to make you stronger ,forcing you to make the needed changes. The shift from the 12th to the 1st is usually quite the relief! Positive energy and Big Hugs sent your way! XX

  6. Hi Zahara Star, your post on Saturn in the 12th was well written and easy to comprehend - thank you for posting! I too have Saturn transiting the 12th and have experienced a couple losses. In June, I lost my teaching job and currently, I do not want another teaching position! In actuality, I have zero ideas on what I want to do for work and I am 47! I may have self sabotaged myself at this district. Right now, I am increasingly focusing on meditation and developing mindfulness. I am entertaining the idea of some kind of retreat or group meditation or anything where I can confront and understand the ego more clearly. I also have natal Neptune in the 12th which is most likely intensifying my desire to become free. How do you see Saturn conjuncting Neptune in the 12th? Are losses are big theme? Confrontation with the ego? thanks

    1. Hi, Thank you! I like to keep things simple when it comes to explaining the effects of transits for the sake of those that are new to Astrology or not all familiar with all the technicalities or Astrological terms. Of course each person's experience varies, there are basic similarities. The 12th house is hardly predictable, it's Neptune's house of the nebulous, it's of water. It is deeply sensitive, and we are vulnerable in this house, and prone to fear because of it. Going with the flow of things is the best way to handle this energy. Become like water, ebb and flow with the currents, things can feel out of your control, it's good to just let go. It is a excellent time to retreat and will prevent a lot of the painful interactions you "can" have with others at this time, things just seem to fall away the more you try anyway. With your natal Neptune in this house, although it's his natural place, it indicates there may be a lot uncovered about yourself, in which you may not have been consciously aware of until now. Neptune also blurs, glamorizes, avoids or glosses over, for the sake of not wanting to deal with the possible pain. However, with Saturn's transit here things come back, and need to be faced and dealt with. There is no more avoidance, it can be a very illuminating time, but not always pleasant. It all depends on how much we have swept under the rug, things loom large. You will have the opportunity to see the "reality" and potentially rid any unconscious self defeating habits, or release any "fears" (real or imagined) in a attempt to make you stronger and freer to pursue your next phase of life much lighter and aware. Loss is part of this transit but we gain a new sense of self in return. This transit is much like a deep cleanse, to release and start again. Your life is going to change, hopefully to be more authentic to your" true inner self". You will formulate who this person is during Saturn's transit through your 1st. For now, self help, spiritual exploration, lot's of rest and letting go will be on the agenda, it's a therapeutic time. You're new career or work will come to you. (most get really busy during Saturn's transit in the 1st) whether it's going back to school, or starting a new job, but usually something begins that kick starts there life in a new direction. If the person is not doing what it is that they really want to be doing, then a change is almost always the situation. So for now rest, and get in touch with the inner workings of yourself, and your spiritual side, and let go of what needs to go. You will feel much more confident to pursue your dreams with Saturn in the 1st. Although it may be much of the same, for the 1st part of his early transit in the 1st, which usually makes one critical of them self, and often dissatisfied, urging them to be more creative, and seems to push idea's to the surface. It's funny, how we are more creative, with limited options. The most obvious results will be seen after his first retrograde period in your 1st house. When he resumes direct motion, I think you will know what it is you want to do, this next exciting phase of your life. All my best!

    2. Also, I am not sure of the rest of your transits, or how much longer you have Saturn in the 12th, but it may help to understand more of the theme, if you check out your progressed moon. You can do that at www.astro.com when you put in your information, and go to extended chart selection. In the chart options you can choose progressed. Then see what sign and house your progressed moon is in, and then google the interpretations. I haven't completed those interpretations just yet, but you will see how it ties into what's going on now. Also if it's changing signs or houses anytime soon, you can see if when things may let up more or where your focus may be turning soon. Just Might give you some ideas as far as the next career, and much more!. Alrighty that's all for now! Best of luck to you!

  7. Wow! Excellent description and writing!! Thank you very much! I do feel like things are out of my control and I intuitively know its time to let go, although this is proving difficult and a little scary at times. I also feeling like I really do not want to delve into spiritual and psychological issues but I feel I have to do it.

    1. Yes, it's a yucky transit, and a bit spooky! So, being aware of what it is that is happening does help one not to take it too seriously although it's like being in a bad dream, and you can't wake up. Ha! Just keep in mind" Most of it is in your head" Don't let it get the best of you and the rest of it is out of your control, so let it go. Although the part that is out of our control, is scary, the fear needs to be overcome by facing and dealing with it. I know it stinks to dig into our psychological issues, but once we do, we can then overcome them. Then there is no stopping us thereafter:) You can do this, even this too will pass:) As always, I am here to help if you need! Xo

  8. The information I received was so helpful for me! Thank you! I'm in the darkest water right now with my Saturn in 12th house and I feel in real what means to suffer... So, I hope I will survive anyway. I'll try to let go the things/people and also I will try to think positive, even sometimes this is the hardest thing...

  9. Thank you! I hope there are better times. In fact the transit Saturn will conjunct first my Capricorn Ascendant for a while and then it will stay 2,5 years in my FIRST house (in Capricorn). So I think that I will feel strong this Saturn influence anyway ... I hope it is for good.

    1. It will get so much better, but at first when it Conjuncts your Ascendant it might still be much of the same. As he makes his way further into your 1st house you will feel much stronger and things will start picking up. Saturn's transit through your first is a excellent time for self improvement and figuring out who it is you really are and want to be. You will feel like a new empowered you has emerged but be patient and make plans, get plenty of rest and excercise, take care of yourself for this transition.

  10. Hi! I will have saturn conjunct my 12th house pretty soon. (Natal Neptune is in Sagittarius in the 12th house, and Saturn in the 9th house in Libra). My boyfriend is 20 years older and going through a divorce and has children. I was reading an article about Saturn transiting the 12th house that really got me thinking. It read: “Its passage over your 7th House cusp (which happens roughly eleven years before it enters your 12th House) can solidify a commitment in an existing relationship. Or, a new relationship with significant limits can enter your life. For example, an older partner, a partner who has children, or a partner that you become responsible for.” He also has a drinking problem and, even though i hate that part of him, i always feel like he needs me and that I'm responsible to care for him when he's drunk. I know, weird!

Can this transit also show up the opposite way as in the life of the partner instead of yours? (like in the uranus square venus transit where eventhough you remain stable the partner may be triggered and becomes restless, wanting more freedom or is unfaithful?). Can Saturn transit manifest in their life as well because they are in a relationship with you?
I guess, i am wondering if it could also bring the legal actual end of HIS marriage status along with the ending of my girlfriend status in order to begin a new solid commitment together once saturn enters my 1st house? The only reason i ask this is because i realize its VERY difficult to build something solid when the old structures (his marriage) is still dissolving.

    1. Hi! Very good question and Yes it's very possible to solidify a solid relationship during Saturns transit here.

I most certainly did and Yes there were restrictions, divorce, children but he was divorcing when we met and we simply spent a lot of time alone together and moved in together rather quickly.

The 12th house transit and all transits are unique to each person. In my case, We are still happily together long after this transit ended 5 years later and we met just before he entered my 12th and was transiting his 7th.

Some fall in love with Saturns entrance to the 12th and end after Saturn moves into the 1st others make it past anything is really possible but whatever does happen it involves healing, letting go and rebuilding when Saturn moves into the 1st.:)

  15. Thank you so much. I am waiting for it to finish passing over my 12th house cusp. Indeed a lonely struggling 2 years now. But 29 years ago my life improved the day before Saturn entered Aqua so amazing is astrology. So next Spring equinox it will enter aqua again but I hope to God life gets better sooner. even 6 mths seems too long to wait. I know we're often focused on the waiting time rather than what we will learn...but we go through the latter anyway and it is so painful to wait and wait for dreams to manifest......
