THE 9th house Synastry- Higher Love

In synastry, the 9th house is not known as the house of true love. However, it's been said that many second Marriages take place here.  What would the 9th house have to do with love or marriage?
Well, I guess, if we are supposed to get it better the second time you know, because of the lessons learned, then the 9th house would actually make sense.
The ninth house in astrology is known as the house of higher learning, long distance travel, organized religion, philosophy, expansion and adventure. Sound like it's possible to fall in love in that house after all.
Who doesn't want a partner that you have all of this is common with? As we evolve or grow later in life we often find the things that were once important to us while younger change. We find the things we use to tolerate while younger become unbearable or unacceptable and the things that were important at one time suddenly lose their importance.
The one thing that we look for regardless of age is compatibility but as we grow in maturity ultimately on the same page and the least amount of differences as possible. We have already been there done that and prefer compatibility.
We prefer a place that we can grow from without the many struggles of having so many differences, in the very important areas of life, things like philosophy, beliefs or ideas.
In astrology, the 7th house represents is considered the house of Marriage, it's really the house of our opposite. These are important relationships because we learn, evolve and change as a result of them. They have many of the things that we lack, and us them. It only makes sense we would be attracted to them would be better in business or as a person with them. We balance each other out in the positive, but in the negative we burn each other out.

The 7th house partners we often attract early on. The 5th is the house of play, and although it's fun in this house it's hard to keep up with and the 8th well,,, it's intense in there and after a while you just say, I'm tired too heavy and exhausting.

When you are looking for a lifelong partner who not only gets you but enlivens you to an elevated love that is built on admiration, respect,  sharing the same ideas and ideals, you feel very at home with this person, you feel hopeful and that anything is possible.
This can also be our guru,  spiritual guide or simply people that we relate to on a fundamental level, and over the long run.

Although the 9th house seems like a brainy house, it's far from it this is the house of adventure, expansion, travel, higher learning, exploration and seeking truths, that's a fulfilling experience!

In synastry, people who transpose planets here inspire us and encourage us, you feel good with them and the relationship never feels stagnant but is constantly growing and expanding. This person can easily be our life long partner. Of course, you need to have some other supportive placements and aspects preferably passionate and attraction ones. See: Attraction and Chemistry.

Expansion and optimism are "keywords" for this house. It's often seen activated in couples that travel together, and or are active, whether recreational, play or sport.

This house is a house of mutual goals, mutual beliefs, mutual desires or zest for a new experience.

Being the house of Jupiter, you really can't go wrong, he's the God of Abundance after all, you will both hold each other with the highest regard and have lot's of fun together.

As always I love to hear your experiences, comments or questions:)

  1. Thanks for this write-up! I love your site. I just stumbled upon it today and I am having a ball reading the articles! :)
I have Pluto in 9th in Libra in the composite with my bf. Does that mean we will both pursue mysticism as higher learning?
    Thanks for any suggestions!

  2. Hi Zoya! Thanks for visiting and enjoying my articles!:) The composite Pluto in the 9th means that you will as a couple, seek the truths relentlessly, exploring all possibilities. Pluto here will dig up both your beliefs and drive you to question them, and seek truer answers. As you explore new possibilities together, and uncover new larger than life concepts mysticism' is one of the many areas covered by this house. You as a couple will more than likely feel compelled to share with others what you have discovered together. Pluto is a powerful planet he digs deep, so the 9th house areas is where you will both dig for answers. Gain great insights together and experience deep transformation. Is Pluto making any aspects to other planets?

  3. Thank you for this, there isn´t much written about 9th house synastry anywhere...
I have 9th house moon and recently I´ve met someone whose Saturn/Venus/Moon conjunction almost exactly conjunct my Taurus moon and I can´t even describe the feeling- like I´ve known this person my whole life, pure love, and conjunction is in Taurus so I feel I wanna hug him all the time- honestly I am out of my element with him, thats how strong it is... he is 15years older then me and married with kids so I don´t think that our relationship is going to progress into sometning more than what it is right now- colleagues...but we also have lilith-sun exact conjunction, and neptune-saturn conjunction right on my IC cusp- thats probably explains alot from my point of view...
    Anyways,thank for your blog :-)

  4. Hi Anonymous! Thank you for visiting and sharing your story! First I would like to say that Saturn Conjunct Moon in synastry really does feel like you have known the person in the past which perhaps you have, it's also a indication of having (Saturn) restrictions to your relationship him being married preventing it from going anywhere. It is also a indication of the age difference! However, the Lilith Sun conjunction, is responsible for the powerful attraction, which is very hard to resist! Neptune Saturn conjunct your IC, Vague circumstances making it difficult to live together. In your situation the it's not so vague, he's married with children. Sometimes you just can't help who you fall in love with, just be sure to take care of you!

  5. Thank you for the post! One thing that strikes me funny about my current bf & I's synastry is that my venus directly conjuncts his 9th house cusp.. 9 leo/9 leo. I was wondering what you think that means? Also we have venus and sun conjunct in the 9th composite right next to the midheaven. I sometimes feel that if your composite or synastry moons are in like the 5 or the 7.. have the sun in the 9th can make for a better balance in relationship.

Would love to get your take on the 9th house cusp thing!

    Thank you!

  6. Hi Anonymous! Jupiter being the ruler of this house, I can say all things of a positive nature unless there are negative planets ie. ( Saturn, Pluto) making hard aspects to any planets within the 9th house. Venus conjunct the 9th in my experience turned out to be more than I thought it would. The 9th house is that of abundance, their is a uplifting positive feel to people that touch this house:) ethics and exploration, all Jupiter related. When it's a personal planet- It's a great feeling to have someone that "thinks" like you do. Understands, and moves about life on the "same wavelength" and "principals" about life. I think 9th house synasty, offers a big picture relationship, that is supportive, uplifting, you feel abundant together (Jupiter). This relationship will be larger than life, a match of a higher kind:) You grow together through faith and optimism!a fun 5th house playful feel with more substance:)

  7. Hi!!! I was wondering what it meant for someone to have their pluto in my 9th house??? My 9th house is in Libra. Also, my pluto is in his 4th house. We both live in different countries and the distance and family seems to be our biggest obstacles. Any thought? I've heard that the 9th house can mean 2nd marriage. Well the both of us have been married once before also. Just trying to figure things out between our charts :-)

  8. Hi Gabriela! Yes the 9th is is considered 2nd marriage to some astrologers, including me:) It as you also know, represents overseas, long distance travel, higher learning philosophy and our over all beliefs, our faith in life. A person transposing their Pluto into your 9th house would indicate transformation in areas of the house. Those areas will be tested, or of particular faccination to the both of you as a couple or even true Pluto style obsession or areas one want's to control. Living long distance would apply to this, meaning their can be obstacles in the way, that you both must overcome. It can also play in many other ways, another being that he has the ability to change your overall beliefs, or will want to challenge them. Pluto is transformation too. You may transform your opinions in these areas through knowing him. You will both also enjoy exploring all these areas with more zest and passion than most without this placement. Pluto is generational and the energy is subtle ..so often it takes time to see which way it is working for the both of you. However, Pluto can also be downright brutal. For it's application as a second marriage-I have mostly seen the sign on the cusp of the 9th house is usually the other Partners Sun sign. However, this means nothing because there are way too many factors to take into consideration in the rest of the chart. So this placement alone would be focusing or experiencing Pluto's power in the areas of the house. Thank you for stopping by!

  9. Hi there! You have wonderful insight on astrology and I'm so glad I stumbled upon your site. Since there's hardly anything on this topic, I was wondering exactly what it means to have a composite north node in the 9th house?

    1. Hi Lindsay! You're comment never showed up in my notifications:( I am so sorry, to reply so late, but I figure it will be helpful to others enquiring also! so, the North Node in the 9th house of the composite indicates that you have come together to learn to take more risks, and explore together, seek life answers, and travel together. Understanding lifes bigger questions will be on the agenda. Perhaps you are both more logical rather than believing in something bigger:) Philosophy, religion, higher learning, and expansion is your purpose together and the direction you will find pulling at the two of you.

    1. I would need to look at your whole chart, but the person will likely be culturally different, from a different background, religion, or family upbringing. You will be exposed to a new culture through your partner, opening you up to a much broader perspective!

  11. Hi,
I met a man some months ago who has a stellium in gemini in the 9th house (sun, venus, mars, mercury), I put my jupiter and lilith, which are conjunct the stellium and my moon in this house. We have the same point of views, we feel very comfortable together. We talk with pleasure about spirituality and philosophy. My mercury/juno conjunction sits on his IC, with my sun/venus also in his fourth house. The first meeting was as if we knew each other already, we talked for four hours without gaps. My north node/IC are conjunct his Asc. His moon is in my 7th house. The passion is there..his lilith is trine my venus/sun. When I am with him it is incredible. I didn't believe that a feeling like this could exist. But...he is married with a daughter.... With this 9th house overlay I hope that I will be his second wife...but I think this will never happen..his saturn is not exactly square my sun/venus..but I hope..

  12. I forgot: We are also from different cultures. My moon is in the same sign as his 9th house cusp: Gemini. He loves my strangers phonetic.. It is incredible how astrology works!

    1. hmm..you can check your progressed Moon, if changing signs it can often reflect either the Sun,Moon or Ascendant of your next partner:)

    2. The 9th house is great:) Also Saturn Square your Venus does produce blockages or delays but usually a strong enough attraction to try to get over any hurdles. I'm not sure about a Marriage, that one I don't want to touch, bad karma. However if it's meant to be all things will work out:)

  13. Hi, Zahara. I know the North Node isn't a planet, but my romantic interest has his in Taurus in my 9th house. How would you interpret this placement?

    1. Hi ! Do you mean his North Node is in your 9th house in Taurus?

    2. His north node in your 9th indicates he will encourage higher learning, philosophy and spiritual matters. You can learn a lot from him in these areas and him from you. :)

  14. My Saturn, Venus, Sun, Moon, Eros, Vesta and South Node overlaying in his 9th house in Pisces and his moon is overlaying in my 9th house in Gemini and my 9th house sign is also his moon sign and his juno is in Sagittarius in his chart and my juno is in Gemini in 9th house in my chart and it's Saturn in his 9th house in his natal chart conjuncting my saturn, moon, sun, venus, south node, eros and vesta and in my moon chart it's his pluto overlaying in my 9th house. What does this mean? Will we get married? And how we will behave with each other? And we also belong from different religion and country and so much long distance between us but I love him so much and he also says that he can't live without me. Please reply. Thanks.

    1. Hi honey.. Thank you for visiting I can not answer your questions without analyzing both charts and the composite a lot goes into to a marriage reading. You would need to order a reading for that. The 9th house is important for long term relationships and marriage however Saturn can present challenges with different beliefs, philosophies or things that matter in long term relationship but I would need to see the full picture to advise:)

  16. Very interesting! Thank you for the great blog. Someone I have been seeing for quite a while has his noon in my 9th Pisces 9th house. His jupiter and chiron conjunct the cusp and also conjunct my north node in the 8th house by 1 degree. You mentioned problems with blockages from the outer planets when expecting the moon in the 9th.. My pluto opposes his moon. I feel that the chiron/jupiter conjunction have been a healing aspect (dw chiron trine sun). Could his jupiter in my 9th help with the moon and pluto opposition? Or would chiron be blocking that as well?
